The Joys of School

Chem Lab:

Today in chemistry lab we were "exploring equilibrium". We were experimenting by making different solutions. To make one solution we had to add ammonia. As I opened the bottle of ammonia I was attacked (to say the least)! The fumes from the strong chemical came flowing out of the bottle and into my eyes and nose. It burned!!! OUCH!!! Once the tears were able to ease the pain in my eyes, I was able to get back to work. Scary though...

Anatomy:
Here is some trivia for you...see if you can figure out where these muscles are in your body:

1. Latissimus Dorsi
2. Serratus Anterior
3. Gracilis
4. Sartorius
5. Psoas Major
6. Gastrocnemius
7. Buccinator
8. Sternocleidomastoid (my personal favorite muscle)
9. Tensor Fasciae Latae
10. Corrugator Supercilii

Here's how you did:

1. One of the major muscles on your back.
2. Muscles that are attatched to your ribs in the front of your body.
3. A muscle on your thigh on the lateral side.
4. A muscle that starts superiorly and laterally on your thigh and goes to the medial more inferior part of your thigh. (It's the muscle that crosses your leg)
5. A muscle whose orgin is on the lumbar vertebrae and attaches to the lesser trochanter of the femur.
6. This is your "calf" muscle on your lower leg.
7. This is a muscle in your cheek that is involved with mastication.
8. This muscle is the one you can see on your neck when you turn your head sideways. It starts on the sternum and clavicle and attaches on the mastoid process in the skull.
9. Starts on the iliac crest of your pubis and continues down the lateral side of your leg.
10. This is the muscle where your eyebrows are. It functions to bring your eyebrows together.

I hope you enjoyed that! There is just a little tidbit of what I am learning! Fun!

Christa---

I'm not sure what happened there. I didn't post that. Becca did some editing on my blog and I'm wondering if she posted on yours when she was connected to my account or something. I looked at your blog and clicked to see who had commented and my name was on it and I was totally! confused. ???? Anybody know how that happened?
I actually learned that muscle back in physiology, but you reminded me of it when we were driving in the car.

I guessed that the Buccinator is the muscle that pirates use when they say, "Arrrrrr!"

Yeah, so reason number one I do not work in any healthcare or body care profession---I failed your little quiz. I guess having taken anatomy would have helped, but alas, I never did. Enjoy school, as much as you can, it's great fun, most of the time.
