MOAB

This week has been really great. I have been off of school for spring break and it was greatly needed! At the end of last week I felt as though my head would explode from everything to do with school. THAT was not so great. Our big plans this holiday was to go to Moab. Robin had planned everything and we decided to leave on Wednesday--hike Wednesday and Thursday and come home Friday. Let's just say that things did not turn out that way. By the way, the troopers were Katie, Robin and myself. We got to Moab and it was FREEZING! For starters, it was snowing when we got there. We got to our campsite and set up camp. By the time we were finished with all of that, we were so cold that we just got right into the tent and bundled up for a nap. When we woke up, the sun had come out and it was slightly warmer. We took advantage of that and went to this place called Indian Staircase. It was awesome! There was this huge face of rock with a crack in it. Inside the crack were pieces of wood put into the rock that you could climb up. It was a bit tricky in some spots--some of the areas we practically had to wedge ourselves through. It was fun though. The distance to the top was about 70 feet. That adventure was really amazing. After we were done with that, we hiked around that area and it was BEAUTIFUL! There was still snow on the trees--the combination of the white snow against the red rock was breath taking. All of this filled Wednesday. We got back to camp, roasted hot dogs and jumped into our sleeping bags. We all fell asleep around 9. I woke up some time later and realized that Kate and Robin were up talking. I joined in and started complaining that 1) I was freezing, 2) it was still dark outside and 3) again, I was cold and I could not feel my feet! We were talking and shivering for a while and I finally asked Katie to get her phone out so we could see what time it was. We guessed it was about 5:30 or so. Wrong. It was 12:30 a.m... We all started cursing the night and were all dreaming of a warm and cozy bed. It was MISERABLE! None of us could go back to sleep because of the cold. I couldn't feel my feet, Katie had to jump in Robin's sleeping bag in order to stay warm--it was just awful. I have never been so cold in my life. So here we are singing, taking pictures and talking--doing whatever possible to help time pass. Finally, at about 3 we somehow got back to sleep. Not for long though. Once 6 rolled around we were wide eyed once again. This time there was no going back to sleep. I couldn't feel my feet again and so I had to take my socks of and rub my feet so they could begin to have feeling in them once again. This was followed by putting my socks back on and instantly going numb. Not fun. Robin got out to cook us food and start a fire and that was LOVELY! We got out there and I warmed my feet by the fire and the rest of the morning was great. We went to Arches National Park to see Delicate Arch. That was gorgeous! The beauty was fabulous, but again it was so so so cold. The wind was blowing so hard that we all were wind burned and frozen to the bone. Haha--it was quite an interesting trip. None of us wanted to spend another freezing night, so we just packed our things up and got out of there. We still had a good time though and created many wonderful memories! Here are some pictures:
